David Lee Huber was 55 years old suspect in the child porn case, he shot dead two FBI agent Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger during a federal search warrant on his apartment. The FBI sources confirmed that they were trying to execute the federal search warrant in the child pornography case but they were killed in action. According to the report, Huber was armed with an assault-style rifle and was watching through the doorbell camera, as soon as the authorities reach the door he opens fire through his unopened door. Later, the FBI confirmed that Huber killed himself.
However, it’s not cleared whether the FBI knew the suspect was heavily armed. This incident took place on Tuesday around 6 AM, the FBI agent went to his first-floor apartment which is located at Water Terrace Apartment in Sunrise and they were trying to execute a warrant related to violent crime against children’s, but they were shot dead with an assault rifle before they could enter his apartment.
One law enforcement official said, “There are several huge holes in the door going outward”. Huber tracked down the authorities through his doorbell camera and in the deadly attack one injured agent is still being treated at Broward Medical health center and another has been released from the hospital, then the third agent suffered from minor injuries that did not need to be taken to the hospital.
Alex Piquero who is specialized in criminology and a professor of the University of Miami Sociology said that entering an apartment is extremely hazardous for law enforcement officers. The special agent Laura Schwartzenberger started working in Bureau in 2005 and served with the Miami office in the children’s unit and also the other special agent Daniel Alfin worked at the FBI headquarters mainly handling crime against children.
Retired FBI agent Richard Kolko told CBS Miami that ‘awfully wrong’. Then, he added, “Getting that many agents caught up in the line of fire – something really went wrong and they’re going to break that all down”.
