Caron Nazario is a Second Lieutenant a member of the U.S. Army Medical Corps. According to the body camera footage On Dec 2020, the police officers in Windsor, Virginia pulled their gun out and pointed at a Black and Latino man, at the gas station for a traffic stop, while Nazario was wearing his full uniform and he en route home from the workplace in his new Chevy Tahoe, he told the officer “I’m serving this country, and this is how I’m treated?” and later he was pepper spared and knocked to the ground.
Later, the police officer handcuffed beat him and threatened him saying they would bring charges against him if he raised any complaint about their behavior. According to the footage, Nazario has sued the officers, Daniel Crocker and Joe Gutierrez, for accusing them of racially profiling him. The officer says they had to stop him because he was driving without the license plate, but Nazario says it was a brand new car and had a temporary plate taped to his window. The officer asked him to get down the car but he said he was afraid so one of the officers responded “Yeah, you should be.”
On 9th April 2021, Friday Attorney Jonathan Arthur told The Associated Press “Graduated from Virginia State University. He was commissioned out of their ROTC program. He’s an officer in the United States armed forces” added “These guys decide to do this to him.” he says after the incident “He’s definitely not doing too well.”. also added, “After what I have seen on the body camera footage, it’s kind of hard to justify them serving and protecting anything”.
The Daniel Crocker Windsor police officer said that Nazario was trying to “eluding police” and according to Arthur says that Nazario was not trying to elude the officer. the lawsuit says “These cameras captured footage of behavior consistent with a disgusting nationwide trend of law enforcement officers, who, believing they can operate with complete impunity, engage in unprofessional, discourteous, racially-biased, dangerous and sometimes deadly abuses of authority,”
Julián Castro twitted on Apr 10th “Army Lt. Nazario was driving his new car home. He was pulled over, pepper-sprayed, and arrested without explanation. This is racism. It’s about the domination and humiliation of a Black man because he asked questions and “didn’t comply.”.
One of the users responded to the tweet stating “Both these cops have to be fired immediately. The evidence is here. If it is not outright racism, what is it? This man is a US Army officer. And they treat him like a criminal. They do not know their job, cannot do their job, or just relish being thugs. And police ask for respect?” and another tweeted saying “The proliferation of guns in the US makes every police stop a potential gun battle. At least that’s how these policemen are acting. If the Lt reaches for his seatbelt to get out, police could assume he is reaching for a gun and shoot. So Why are they are insisting he gets out?”.
the other user twitted to the incident “But why doesn’t he just listen and get out of the car? It always amazes me. Just listen. This video really is to make a big deal out of an army guy getting pepper-sprayed by cops right? Then turn it into police brutality or one of those political stance things you all strife for”.
