Ida Vinterberg was the daughter of Thomas Vinterberg who is a Danish film director. Ida died on May 4, 2019, in a highway car accident in Belgium while shooting “Another Round” which is a life-affirming movie about alcohol and friendship, it has won the Oscar award for the Best International Feature Film on Sunday 25th April 2021. Thomas paid tribute to his daughter while accepting his Oscar award. During his speech, while accepting his Oscar, the actor remembered his late daughter, who died while shooting the movie in 2019. During his speech he said “Most importantly I want to thank my daughter Ida, who is no longer here. She was more enthusiastic about this project than anyone else had ever been” added “It made her miss her hometown, Copenhagen, and now we miss her. And we made this movie for her.”
He later told “Ida loved this, and she felt seen by this, and she was supposed to be in this, and if anyone dares to believe that she’s here with us somehow, you’ll be able to see her clapping and cheering with us. We ended up making this movie for her as her monument. So, Ida, this is a miracle that just happened, and you’re a part of this miracle. Maybe you’ve been pulling some strings somewhere, I don’t know, but this one is for you.” After Thomas Vinterberg’s speech, many of his fans took Twitter and wrote about the great speech. One fan tweeted “Whaaat!!?? #Thomasvinterberg I’m deeply sorry and moved May her sweet memory bless you” Another tweeted “Huge congratulations to Denmark from this Swede who was deeply moved by Vinterberg’s speech”. While another fan tweeted “Thomas Vinterberg’s speech had me SOBBING, what a beautiful film, Ida would’ve adored it”. “Great speech. Thank God they didn’t try to play him off” another tweeted.

Vinterberg told the audience “Two months before we shot this movie and two months before she died, she was in Africa,” continued “She sent me a letter. And she’d just read the script, and she was glowing with excitement. She loved this and felt seen by this. She was supposed to be in this. If anyone dares to believe that she’s with us somehow, you’ll be able to see her, clapping and cheering with us.” Added “We ended up making this movie for her, as her monument. So, Ida, this is a miracle that just happened, and you’re a part of this miracle. Maybe you’ve been pulling some strings somewhere, I don’t know, but this one is for you.”
Ida Vinterberg was born to Maria Walbom (Mother) who is a film Director and Thomas Vinterberg (Father) who is Oscar award winner, Director, and Co-founded the Dogme 95 movement in filmmaking. He is best known for films like Another Round, Submarino, The Hunt, The Celebration, and Far from the Madding Crowd. Her parents got separated in 2007. She has a sibling named Nanna Vinterberg.
