Charles Grodin is was an American actor, comedian, television talk show host, and author. He was born on April 21, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A, and he was born to Orthodox Jewish parents Theodore I. Grodin and Lena Singer, his grandfather changed the family named Grodin from Grodinsky. During his young age, he worked in the family store, which sold wholesale supplies with his elder brother Jack. He started his acting career 1960s appearing in TV serials including Rosemary’s Baby in 1968, The Virginian, supporting roles in Mike Nichols’s Catch-22 (1970), lead in Elaine May’s The Heartbreak Kid (1972), and Heaven Can Wait as Warren Beatty (1978).
He also played a supporting actor in many Hollywood comedies like Ishtar (1987), Real Life (1979), Dave (1993), Midnight Run (1988), Seems Like Old Times (1980), and frequent appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman. Later, he returned to an acting career with roles in the mid-2010s, including in While We’re Young (2015) and Louis C.K.’s FX show Louie. After, when he retired from the acting career, he started writing several autobiographies and also became the host on the CNBC talk show.
